garment factory fire in ashulia, dhaka- tragic death of hundreds of employees

Ashulia garments factory fire

24 November, hundreds of poor workers are working in garment factory , named Tazreen garments in Ashulia near dhaka, capital city of Bangladesh .All the exits are locked .All garments factories keep their exits locked in Bangladesh .Because they care about more profits , they do not care about occupational health and safety ( OHS) . Suddenly fire broke out .Even fire was engulfing every level gradually  and taking a monster look , like Doomsday , but still the exits are locked . Hundreds of people was charred , engulfed by monster fire and most of them burnt to death , some of the jumped down and died on the ground.. This is brutal picture of inhumanity ,where hundreds of poor employees were charred , because they do not have any workplace safety . Millions of poor employees , who are working in garments factory in Bangladesh , do not have any Occupational Health and Safety in their workplaces. Because the owners want to maximize the profits by ignoring all safety measures of workplaces and relaxation of law does not force them to implement safety rules and regulations.

CNG( auto-rickshaw) journey and Dhaka city

CNG in Dhaka city    - photo by khalilur rahman
Last month , I was in Dhaka, capital city of Bangladesh for three weeks holidays . Dhaka is very ancient and highly populated  and Mega city in South-East Asia .     Public transport system is a very miserable and horrible in Dhaka  .If you do not travel by your own transport , then the journey can be a disastrous at any time .Trains, buses do not run properly on scheduled timetables. Cab or taxi is not always available , the attitude of cabbies are most of the time are very rude. They do not follow any rules, whether it is about traffic rules or or taxi-fares. CNG ( previously known as baby taxi ) is the only transport , which is widely available everywhere of Dhaka city.  If you do not travel by trains or buses or cars , then the only choice is available for you a journey by CNG ( auto rickshaw). I have traveled by CNG for couple times in Dhaka, most of the time , I found , the drivers are very rude. They do not have any duty of care to the customers /passengers.They always bargain about the fare, they never follow the meter of fare. At the very beginning of the tour , they fix the fare and destination according to their choices , which is absolutely against the rules and regulation. Passengers have to pay many times more to the actual fares. Moreover , this sector is not strictly regulated and monitored by law enforcement agencies of Bangladesh . A journey by CNG in Dhaka city is simply a night-mare.

traffic-jam and dhaka

Dhaka -       khalilur rahman
Once upon a time, Dhaka , capital city of Bangladesh was an exquisite city in Bangladesh or even in South -East Asia .If you have been in Dhaka at least one decade ago , you must have enjoyed the beauties of her at every suburbs . But now it is worst case scenario for Dhaka . Extreme traffic jams, floods of mozzies and flies, frequent blackouts ( locally known as load shading ) scarcities of public trasports, no traffic rules, uncontrolled and expensive transport fares and frequent dominance of muggers on streets  are very frequent scenarios in Dhaka city . Infact , Dhaka lost all her beauties  because of rein-less corruptions and uncontrolled and over populations  . The scale of sufferings of city dwellers is beyond any description . City dwellers are spending a lot of time to getting to workplaces and getting back after works . Governments , local governments or other governments agencies are not taking any sustainable and effective steps to eliminate all these sorts problems .All these sorts of environmental problems are getting worst every day .

kiama, new south wales

kiama lighthouse

I visited Kiama couple of days ago , almost one and half an hour drive from Sydney . Kiama is one of the ancient places of South coast of New South Wales , Australia . If you visit Kiama , I am sure you can enjoy an exquisite time with the beauties and atiquities of this place ; the blowhole , Kiama lighthouse ( which was built in 1887) and the beautiful beaches and luxuriant green .

skyrocketing price of electricity in Australia

If we see a comparative price- study of electricity , then obviously  the result will come up that the price of electricity is skyrocketing in Australia ; what is very devastating for thousands of Australian families. Electricity is the most expensive in Australia than any other countries of the world. Carbon tax and infrastructure costs are enhancing the  electricity-price to horrible extent . The Independent Pricing And Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) has given permission to increase the price 16.4% in NSW  for 2012-13 due to " rising network costs and the introduction of the carbon tax " .

                           year                                     price increase
                        2010-11                                     10%
                        2011-12                                     17%
                        2012-13                                     16.4%
The above mentioned data obviously indicate how much price has been increased in the last couple of years . Due to the price hike , every household will have to pay an extra amount $338 for power bill every year .
IPART chairman Dr Peter Boxall said  "the proposed price increases would be difficult for many customers but were necessay to ensure that the retailers can recover the costs of providing electricity and remain financially viable ".

ekushey boi mela ( book fair marking 21st February ,1952 )

The most beautiful  event I used to enjoy
                            with my heart and soul
                                  the book fair of February
on the premises of Bangla Academy , Dhaka .

It is not only a usual book fair ,
it is something more - beyond the book fair.
It is a legend ,  legend of language movement
                       the root of a nation
the birth of a country .
It is a legend of all languages of our planet earth ,
loving our mother tongues of our earth.
It is an exquisite moment ,
          when we say
" happy international mother language day "
to every one of our universe .
