CNG in Dhaka city - photo by khalilur rahman |
Last month , I was in Dhaka, capital city of Bangladesh for three weeks holidays . Dhaka is very ancient and highly populated and Mega city in South-East Asia . Public transport system is a very miserable and horrible in Dhaka .If you do not travel by your own transport , then the journey can be a disastrous at any time .Trains, buses do not run properly on scheduled timetables. Cab or taxi is not always available , the attitude of cabbies are most of the time are very rude. They do not follow any rules, whether it is about traffic rules or or taxi-fares. CNG ( previously known as baby taxi ) is the only transport , which is widely available everywhere of Dhaka city. If you do not travel by trains or buses or cars , then the only choice is available for you a journey by CNG ( auto rickshaw). I have traveled by CNG for couple times in Dhaka, most of the time , I found , the drivers are very rude. They do not have any duty of care to the customers /passengers.They always bargain about the fare, they never follow the meter of fare. At the very beginning of the tour , they fix the fare and destination according to their choices , which is absolutely against the rules and regulation. Passengers have to pay many times more to the actual fares. Moreover , this sector is not strictly regulated and monitored by law enforcement agencies of Bangladesh . A journey by CNG in Dhaka city is simply a night-mare.
